Learners should only have pens and answer sheet. They are not allowed to have any other mathematical equipment or paper for working out. 2. The teacher will need a watch or clock that tells the time accurately in seconds. 3. The teacher should read each question twice slowly and then wait the correct number of seconds (5 seconds for questions 1–7, 10 seconds for questions 8–12 and 15 seconds for questions 13–20) before moving on to the next question. 4. Learners are not allowed to ask questions during the test.

You will be asked 20 questions. On your sheet there is an answer box for each question. You should work out your answers in your head. Do not try to write down your calculations because this will take up too much time. For some of the questions, important information is already written down for you on the sheet. Each question will be read aloud twice. You will then have time to work out your answer. If you don’t know the answer to the question, leave it and wait for the next question. If you want to change your answer, put a cross through your first answer and write your new answer nearby. For the first group of questions you will have 5 seconds to work out each answer. For the second group of questions you will have 10 seconds to work out each answer. For the third group of questions you will have 15 seconds to work out each answer. Each question is worth one mark. Do you have any questions about the test? (Answer any questions the learners may have.) Write your name on the front of the answer sheet. (Begin the test.) Now we are ready to start the test. For this first group of questions, you will have 5 seconds to work out each answer and write it down. 1 Write down a factor of twenty. 2 Divide two by a half. 3 Look at your answer sheet. a and b are alternate angles. Draw angle b on the diagram. 4 Round twenty-three point nine eight one to one decimal place. 5 Write down the order of rotational symmetry of a parallelogram. 6 Look at the expression on your answer sheet. Simplify the expression. 7 Look at your answer sheet. Complete the box with the correct power of ten.

He picks one of these sweets at random. Write down the probability that he picks a red sweet. 9 Multiply seventeen by eight. 10 Look at the expressions on your answer sheet. Start with n, double it and then add five. Draw a ring around the expression that shows this. 11 The scale on a map is one centimetre equals five hundred metres. Work out how many kilometres four centimetres on the map represents. 12 Look at the calculation on your answer sheet. Use this to work out two point three multiplied by zero point four. For this group of questions, you will have 15 seconds to work out each answer and write it down. 13 The table on your answer sheet shows food and drink choices for children at a party. Find the percentage of children who chose pasta and orange juice. 14 Look at the pie chart on your answer sheet. It shows how thirty children travel to school. Work out the number of children who walk to school. 15 Three x plus two equals seventeen. Find the value of x. 16 Look at your answer sheet. It shows a diagram made from three straight lines. Find the size of angle p. 17 Six divided by one third is eighteen. Work out six divided by two thirds. 18 Write down the coordinates of the point where the lines y = x and x = 3 cross. 19 Simplify the ratio of thirty centimetres to one hundred and fifty millimetres. 20 Look at the net of a square-based pyramid on your answer sheet. Find the surface area of this pyramid. Now put down your pen. The test is finished.
